In 2003, Waterway created an operating division to provide SBA credit underwriting, loan processing, lender referrals, and other services to bank and non-bank SBA lenders. Waterway’s in-house expertise included the ability to handle routine and special loan servicing, workout and SBA guarantee purchase and liquidation services and management consulting on loan sales and secondary market activities.

Following several years of operation during which Waterway underwrote and processed over $100 million of small business loans for its lender clients, the business unit was acquired and the software technology was licensed by a national bank seeking to develop its own nationwide SBA lending platform. The Waterway team and the Command Center software were instrumental in the rapid growth of the new business line into a successful and autonomous operation, receiving a “no exceptions” SBA examination report and earning formal SBA recognition as the national 2007 SBA Lender of the Year.
